The Most Anticipated Cloud Computing Trends in 2022

Saying that 2020 has been a rough year is definitely the biggest understatement of the year. Not only did it somewhat turn the world on its head, all the predictions, the forecasts, but the trends of the past year have also somewhat been thrown out the window. In hindsight, though, some branches of technology have emerged as relevant, considering how they help us adapt to and survive the new normal.

One of these is cloud computing.

Given that it’s the backbone of a data-heavy, digital-based technology environment, it’s become more and more crucial as years go by. Cloud services are everywhere, actually, from contact tracing systems, to work-from-home setups, to even advanced delivery services.

Having said that, we’ve recently conversed with experts and online business leaders to know more about what they think lies ahead in the ever-evolving ecosphere of cloud computing. Here are their thoughts:

1. Cloud Computing Will Go Serverless

The thing I’m most excited about is the possibility of going serverless in 2021. For businesses like mine, this has the potential to completely change the game when it comes to preferences and the conception of cloud adoption and will have limitless advantages. They say that, by the end of 2021, the adoption of serverless computing will be around 20% and I fully intend my business to be within that figure. I really do see this as being the biggest trend for cloud computing in 2021.

2. Multi- and Joint-Cloud Providers Will Begin to Flex Their Muscles

Multi-cloud and joint cloud providers are very much going to be big news in 2021. Also, Hybrid Cloud is going to be big, as this has significant benefits for businesses including speed, control and security. The latter, in particular, is important, as 2020 saw a large rise in cyber-crime and businesses have had to scramble to make sure that they have more than adequate security measures in place. With hybrid cloud, data which was once held in a private cloud is transferred to the public cloud for analytics while extensive encryption techniques can be added for super-sized security.

3. AI Cloud Computing Will Be Here to Stay

While you may be tired of hearing about artificial intelligence (AI), it’s most definitely here to stay and cloud computing is no exception. 2021 will be very much focused on AI cloud computing which is the combination of AI’s machine learning capabilities with cloud-based computing environments. This will pave the way for intuitive, connected experiences which will transform the cloud to a whole different animal.

Whenever we look at tech advancements for 2021, AI and machine learning are going to be in there somewhere and, I guarantee that you’ll be hearing a lot of about AI cloud computing in the next 12 months.

4. Cloud Computing with IoT and Big Data Will Merge Successfully

One of the highly anticipated cloud computing trends that can be expected in 2021 is the combination of cloud computing, IoT and Big Data. The merge between these types of technologies will give companies the opportunity to gain deeper insight into competitors, therefore helping them to improve their own business, and will help with general operation and functionality since everything will exist on the cloud. This trend should accelerate business growth as a whole, and I expect we’ll be moving into a new era of modern business.

5. Cloud Computing Will Gain More Momentum

Cloud computing received a new meaning for just a year. It’s not a buzzword anymore, as we’re entering the new realm in which everyone should fit in.  

From my perspective, cloud computing will gain momentum in 2021 for 2 reasons. Firstly, 2020 became a basis in growing cloud adoption, so that now it isn’t scary to migrate to the cloud. Secondly, a business will pull out of the global crisis that encourages them to invest in technology—and the cloud is their prerogative.

6. Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure Will Become More Significant

Hybrid cloud infrastructure and its technologies will be a major area for IT leaders to watch in 2021. This year, tech giants like Google, Azure, and IBM have invested significantly in hybrid cloud infrastructure. CIOs should be considering this technology now if they want to stay ahead of the curve.

Not only are consumers using more data, which requires more storage, but also demanding better security for that data. Hybrid cloud infrastructure is an excellent tactic for tackling the growing issue of exponential data growth. At the same time, it keeps privacy, security, and compliance at the forefront.

While watching this trend, keep in mind that hybrid cloud infrastructure blends both public and private clouds. Hybrid cloud makes it easier to share information between different environments, integrate IT resources, connect multiple devices, and create tools to manage multiple clouds. But you’ll have less control over the security of your data in a public cloud than a private cloud, so be sure to implement a sound process for separating information between public and private clouds.
